Running, Biking, and Swimming “For The Cause”

Kelli SargentMarch 30, 2012

We were so proud to hear that one of our supporters is fundraising for run for her all the way from Wisconsin!

Carmen will be competing in an Ironman triathlon in June, and as she trains for the big event she is raising money on behalf of run for her! Living in Wisconsin, Carmen has only been able to make it to Los Angeles to participate in the run for her 5K once, so she saw this as her opportunity to race for the cause. If you want to learn more about her journey, you can read her note to friends and family, which I’ve included below.

Are you supporting run for her from afar or participating in your own race for the cause? We would love to hear your story.

Thank you for doing your part to support ovarian cancer research and awareness throughout the year!

Dear Friends and Family,

As many of you may already know I will be competing in the Ironman Coeur d’Alene on June 24th.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with an Ironman, it’s a triathlon consisting of a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike ride, and finishes with a marathon. The Ironman should be an exciting experience and I have been preparing over the last three months.

I have decided to register with the Ironman Foundation, and raise money as I train for run for her ® a 5K run/walk that was created to support Ovarian Cancer research and awareness. The 5K was started in honor of Nanci Sargent, my mother’s best friend. The first run for her ® 5K took place in 2005 with 700 participants and last year over 5,000 people participated, and to date run for her has raised $4 million for the Cedars-Sinai Women’s Cancer Program at the Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute.

The Ironman Foundation is providing me with the platform to raise funds for run for her ®. In doing so, I am making my journey a race for a cause. My fundraising goal is $2,000.00 and I really need your support to reach it.

Please partner with me by making a donation on my secure personal fundraising webpage at http://ironman.kintera.org/coeurdalene2012/runforher

You can find more information there on my story and the Ironman Foundation. I will continually update the website with my progress in both training and fundraising. I thank you in advance for your support, and really appreciate your generosity.

Have a great day!

Carmen

In just 4 weeks, Carmen will be competing in the Ironman Coeur d’Alene in Idaho. Carmen is not only competing, but she is also raising money for run for her. Her goal is to raise $2,000 and she is almost half way there. Thank you Carmen!

Just reading about her vigorous training schedule makes me thirsty and in need of a massage!

Up until last week she was spending about 13-18 hours training. Last week was her peak week – On Monday she did a 21 mile run and 2 hour bike ride, Wednesday a 10 mile run and a 1.5 hour bike ride, Thursday an hour swim, and Friday a 112 mile bike ride followed by a 3 mile run! Truly amazing Carmen!

The Ironman Foundation has selected Carmen as a “Featured Athlete!” Read more here:
